Two recent graduates from our Digital Missions School at One Village Group are heading to Japan soon!
Here are some things we learned about Japan from Andrew and Ashlynn at One Mission Society as we worked with them...
The Numbers in Japan
In Japan, missionaries have been able to share freely about Jesus for about 150 years…
Despite this freedom, the Christian church in Japan has faced unique obstacles that have radically stunted its growth.

While it has not been illegal to share about Jesus for over a century, there are still only an estimated 2.5 million Christians (less than 2%) out of a population of over 126 million.
This video from Radical does an AWESOME job breaking down the unique obstacles in Japan:
1. Is Christianity Doomed to Fail in Japan?
2. A Japanese Testimony
In Japan it is not as acceptable to be different. This is the story of Mayuko and how she came to believe in Jesus after living with some crazy Americans (filmed by Tim at hereiamgod.net).
3. The Dark Side of Japan: The Lost Generation
If you want to understand Japan better you have to understand their fall from grace in the 90’s and the creation of the “Lost Generation” (almost 17 million people aged 30-40 plagued by unemployment).
Why this matters?
Japan is one of the most unreached countries in the world. But God is on the move and many Japanese are meeting Jesus.
In light of the large-scale problems Japan is facing as a country, people are becoming open to new ideas, and hopefully, open to a new message.
