You know that feeling of joy when your favorite song starts playing? Now imagine that song didn't exist in your language any more 🥲. Or really, any of your favorite songs!
The vast majority of music in the world is produced in English, even though only about 4.6% of people (or 360 million out of 7.8 billion) are native English speakers.
Our friend, Tommy Bourke, is on a mission to create an online library of worship music for Albanians, in Albanian. His heart is to see Albanians producing their own worship music in their own language.
This video is a cover of "Worthy is the Lamb" produced by Tommy and some others in the local church there in Albania. It is sung by Petrina Kalaveshi, a local singer. This video is the first step in what we hope will be a library of music for Albanian churches worldwide to use for worship or personal listening.
Why YouTube?
- Wide use of YouTube: YouTube is not only one of the world's go-to sources for videos but for listening to music as well. With 93% of all content watched on YouTube being music-related, music videos are some of the platforms most sought after content for its 2 billion monthly active users worldwide.
- Easy to share: Many Albania churches are small and do not have musicians. The need for quality videos that these churches can sing along with, in their own language, during worship is very important. The subtitles are bi-lingual which allows multi-generational Albanian churches here in America to use the videos as well. With new tech, it's easy for Tommy to build an online library and it's easy for people worldwide to access it.
Enjoy the video! We look forward to sharing more as the Albanian Worship Project continues.
